a scrappy riot of color, form, and function

Hi, I'm Meaghan. I'm a queer femme and fourth generation sewist, stitcher, and crafter. My life as a maker began, in adulthood, at a folding table in my apartment in Washington DC in 2007 when I decided to return to my childhood love of beading and jewelry making. Over the years, I have worked hard to refine my aesthetic, improve and expand my skills, and make things I love. I have settled into sewing and quilting in a way that has felt like I've finally found my crafty home.

I like to say that So Gingerly is a scrappy riot of color, form, and function. So much of what I make is designed to make your home and life a little tidier, a little brighter, and a lot more fun. My work speaks to kids of all ages and I'm inspired by childlike glee, no matter the source. I work from my home studio and sew on a Juki TL-2200QVP as well as a decade-old Singer and a Brother serger. I also do quite a bit of hand-stitching -- embroidery, applique, and cross stitch. Incorporating vintage fabrics, findings, and needlepoint into my projects is an enormous priority for me.

Craft shows were something I loved to do and I have participated in shows in the Washington DC and Charlotte, NC metro areas since 2008. I am a former member of the DC Craft Mafia, founding member of the Queer Crafter Collective, and I have coordinated the social media/blogging for an incredibly popular DC maker fair called GRUMP for many years.

For close to a decade, So Gingerly has been a making refuge for me. I have loved production and design work, participating in craft shows, and the business side of things. As I move into the next season of my life, as they say, the e-commerce side of things will likely not be as important to me as community connections.

Through my community building efforts over the past two years, I have started a digital quilt guild called Quilt Scouts, written about those connections for Curated Quilts, and participated in a panel about pattern design and testing with CQ. In 2022, with the help of a vast network of energized justice quilters across the country, I have coordinated fundraisers that have collected over $55,000 for food justice, reproductive justice, and mutual aid organizations across the country.

I live outside Charlotte, NC with my partner, my stepkid, and our two pups! In September 2022, I was diagnosed with Stage IIId metastatic melanoma. My quilting, writing, and community work may or may not be impacted by this new path.
